Description:
An Intimate Jewellery Workshop Honouring Ancestral Wisdom
After a powerful debut at the International Arts Biennale, we’re bringing this workshop home — to Oman, where it all began.
Join us for a rare and heartfelt experience as we delve into the world of Dhofari silverwork, focusing on the sacred Murriya necklace. More than a piece of jewellery, the Murriya carries generations of memory, protection, and storytelling.
In 2021, the last known female Dhofari silversmith passed away, and with her, an entire tradition nearly vanished. But in 2024, a six-week revival program by Riyada (Oman’s SME authority) sparked hope. That’s where I met Mabrooka — a bright, emerging silversmith. This workshop supports and celebrates her journey to becoming a master in this endangered craft.
Together, Mabrooka and I invite you into a shared act of preservation and beauty.
What will you learn?
You’ll craft your own modern Murriya necklace, using handcrafted silver charms made by Mabrooka and a carefully curated selection of gemstones. Along the way, you’ll also learn about the ancestral meanings behind the materials and forms.
